Hugh Paterson is a retired cardiac surgeon from Westmead Hospital known for his arerial grafting coronary bypass surgery, particularly with bilateral mammary artery composite grafts. He is now part of the mitral research group at Sydney University, performing ovine left ventricular mechano-energetic studies in association with various mitral valve interventions, with a view to improving outcomes in patients with cardiomyopathic mitral incompetence.
